People who serve their country and community are often under-recognized, but starting Sept. 6, that is going to change.

Sunday, Sept. 6, is the first day of Freedom Week Sonoma, a week-long event, to salute the men and women who strive for safety and security.

During Freedom Week Sonoma, local businesses will provide a free item or service to veterans, active duty military and their spouses and children, firefighters and law enforcement officers in appreciation for their service.

The event is being sponsored by the Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley, American Legion Jack London Post #489, Veterans of Foreign Wars-Bear Flag Post 1943, Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau.
