‘Experience the Passion’ was the tagline for La Luz Center’s 30th anniversary “Noche Latina” fundraiser – and experience the passion is exactly what attendees did.

Nearly 400 supporters of the Valley’s Latino cultural and advocacy nonprofit turned out to raise their wine glasses – and to raise some serious money: a record-breaking $452,000! – at the Aug. 1 salute to Hispanic dance, music and dress at the charmingly rustic K2 Ranch in Glen Ellen. Guests were treated to dinner catered by Elaine Bell, wines by Highway 12 winery, a video highlighting La Luz’s expanding programs, and an eyebrow-raising tango by MC Marcelo Defreitas and Valerie Pistole. Defreitas himself was honored with a surprise tribute to his five years of producing the “Noche” events, and he returned the favor by bringing out a “bull,” which proceeded to chase board member Kimberly Blattner, who was dressed in red, right out the barn door.

Passion officially experienced.
