Quarryhill Botanical Gardens will host training classes for prospective docents starting Wednesday, July 29.

Quarryhill is a 25-acre woodland botanical garden nestled in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, featuring more than 20,000 wild-origin plants in a naturalistic setting. Quarryhill’s goal is to be “a modern-day ark of rare and beautiful plants,” as well as “a place where education and conservation are at the heart of the mission and run as deep as the tranquil ponds and seasonal waterfalls that flow through.”

For people who have a passion for teaching children, but are afraid they don’t know enough about plants, don’t worry, say Quarryhill officials. Docents don’t need to have a botanical or horticultural background to be a youth education docent.

According to Quarryhill spokespeople, “Docents will be taught everything they need to know.”

The training classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on six consecutive Wednesdays, running from July 29 to Sept. 2.
