Those are my friend’s empty beer cans, officer...

Staying out of trouble is often a matter of not surrounding yourself with troublemakers – or troublemaking beer cans. That’s what one Plaza provocateur learned the hard way last month. Here’s the story: A deputy on patrol May 29 at 11:45 p.m. approached a suspicious person in the area of the Plaza near the fish fountain - a 33-year-old Sonoma resident drinking beer, with several other empty beer cans nearby. There is no public consumption of alcohol allowed at the Plaza between sundown and 11 a.m. the following day. The man said they empties weren’t his, but a friend’s. The man was found to have outstanding warrants in Woodland (Yolo County). As the deputy was writing up the man, another local man, 28-years-old, walked up carrying an opened and half-empty (or half-full) 24 oz. can of Natural Ice. He was discovered to be on probation and as he was drinking beer, he was in violation. Each man was cited for several violations.

• Saturday, May 30:

6:14 p.m. – Dancing to imaginary music. Sonoma Police received a call asking to check on the welfare of an individual in a residential neighborhood at the bike path and Junipero Serra Drive. The police located a 46-year-old male who was dancing to melodies only he could hear and pacing with clenched fists. When identification was made, he was found to be in violation of a bench warrant for a minor infraction, and arrested.

Tuesday, June 2:

5:30p.m., DUI on meds. A witness reported a car sideswiped a parked car and drove away. The incident took place at Spring Lane and Andrieux. On the way to the location, a deputy noticed a silver Mercedes with a badly damaged front fender not far away, at Second Stree West and Perkins Street and a woman sitting on the ground nearby. He inquired about her well-being and she said she was attempting to return to the scene of an accident but her vehicle was disabled. She said she was driving west on Andrieux and an approaching car forced her to move to the right where she collided with a parked car, then continued on her way. The officer determined she was driving under the influence of a prescribed medication and she was cited.
