The Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation has named Dave Pier as executive director.

Pier formerly served as CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley, and had recently stepped in to serve as the Foundation’s executive director on an interim basis.

“We are extremely fortunate to have someone with Dave’s experience, talents and deep understanding of our community assume this position,” said Marcia Levy, Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation board chair. “We feel that Dave will play a significant role in helping the Foundation fulfill its mission of providing financial support to our hospital, enabling it to provide the best possible health care to the Sonoma Valley.”

In his new position, Pier will work closely with the SVH Foundation board to raise funds for the hospital and oversee several Foundation community programs funded by philanthropy. These include Project Pink, which funds mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women, and the new Cancer Support Sonoma program located within the hospital, which provides complementary therapies to help reduce the physical and emotional symptoms of conventional cancer treatment.

“This is a wonderful opportunity and an important challenge,” Pier said. “A financially healthy hospital is vital to Sonoma. For our hospital to continue to provide the finest care, it needs financial support beyond what it receives in revenue from services alone, and our community has shown it supports its hospital.”

Pier brings to his position more than 20 years experience working with nonprofits in the Sonoma Valley. He recently served as CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley and, during his eight-year tenure, helped to make it one of the larger nonprofits in the area, serving more than 40 percent of Sonoma’s youth. Prior to that, he spent 12 years at Hanna Boys Center, including serving as residence manager.

Pier holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from College of Notre Dame in Belmont, and a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Sonoma State University.

A native of Sonoma County, Pier lives in Sonoma with his wife, Kristi, and their three children. He is active in the Sonoma Rotary Club and served on the board for four years. He currently serves on the board of trustees at the Presentation School. He also served on the board of the Sonoma Valley Fund, a subsidiary of the Sonoma County Community Foundation, and is a current member of the Sonoma Valley Health Roundtable.

The Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 1982 dedicated to bringing health and wellbeing to the residents of Sonoma Valley through philanthropic and volunteer support for Sonoma Valley Hospital. In addition to the recent capital campaign, which raised $11 million to help fund the hospital’s new wing, the SVH Foundation has raised more than $7 million from individual donors, charitable foundations and corporations to enhance medical services, equipment and programs, and to help cover the hospital’s cost of caring for patients who could otherwise not afford to pay.
