Brummett to discuss Mexican Ranchos

The Sonoma Valley Historical Society hosts David Brummett at 10 a.m.|

The Sonoma Valley Historical Society hosts David Brummett at 10 a.m. Friday, May, 1, who will talk about the Mexican Ranchos and the importance of hides and tallow to the California economy.

The rancho period was a transition time between the mission period and the beginning of the United States.

The ranchos disappeared for the same reasons that the Indian culture disappeared at the coming of the Europeans: they did not have infrastructure necessary to adapt to the changing conditions.

The talk will be held at the Depot Park Museum, 270 First St. W., Sonoma.

The lecture is free to members and docents, but there’s a $5 fee for nonmembers.
