A free, four-mile walk from Sonoma Creek to the top of the Overlook Trail and back is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25.

The walk is sponsored by Greenbelt Alliance and Sonoma County Regional Parks as part of Parks Celebration 2015, with hikes and events around Sonoma County’s public lands and open spaces from Earth Day through Memorial Day.

The Creek-to-Peak walk is family friendly but is considered moderately difficult, with some uphill areas and some dirt and/or rocky paths. No dogs allowed on the walk.

The walk starts at Maxwell Farms Regional Park with a visit to Sonoma Creek, then follows the bike path to the newly opened trails through Montini Open Space Preserve. From there, walkers will connect to the Overlook Trail and hike to the top of Schocken Hill overlooking Sonoma.

Walkers should register in advance at greenbelt.org/events. For more information, contact Ken Lavin at klavin@greenbelt.org or call 415-543-6771, ext. 321. Parking at Maxwell Farms is $7 or free for Regional Park members. Hikers should bring water, snacks, dress in layers and wear sunscreen. Rain cancels.
