Wastewater plant tour offered

A free public tour of the Sonoma Valley wastewater treatment plant will be offered from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, offering local residents an in-depth look at the process their wastewater undergoes and how this water is reused once it has been treated, filtered, and disinfected.

The plant is located at 22675 Eighth St. E., Sonoma.

Plans are under way for a pipeline to send recycled water from the Sonoma Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant to Sonoma Valley High School for irrigation of playing fields. The treatment plant tour will provide residents with information about the process of producing recycled water and the benefits derived from reusing this precious resource.

The Sonoma Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant is operated by the Sonoma Valley County Sanitation District, one of eight sanitation districts operated by the Sonoma County Water Agency.

“Recycled water is a tremendous resource that can help us maintain sustainable and reliable water supplies,” said Sonoma County Supervisor and Water Agency Chair Susan Gorin. “This tour will provide community members with a close-up look at how the Sonoma Valley County Sanitation District produces and distributes more than a billion gallons of recycled water each year. This water is put to beneficial uses and is helping us sustain our groundwater basin, enhance the environment, and conserve water supplies from the Russian River.”

To register for the tour, email ryan.pedrotti@scwa.ca.gov or go to sonomacountywater.org/tours and fill out the online registration form.
