“Rock Your Pelvis, Build Your Core” is the theme of the April “GirlTalk” event, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 17, sponsored by Sonoma Valley Hospital.

The speakers will discuss ways women can improve bladder control and pelvic health by strengthening pelvic and core floor muscles through exercise and movement, and lifestyle changes including diet.

Pelvic health involves the diagnosis and treatment of any health-related concern involving joint, nerve, organ or soft tissue issues within the boney pelvis. Currently, millions of Americans experience problems related to pelvic health, including incontinence, which is a growing problem.

Addressing the topic are Angela Cuento Marian and Christina Cary, both Sonoma Valley Hospital physical therapists.

Marian has specialized training in pelvic health, and holds a bachelor of science in kinesiology from San Diego State University, and a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of St. Augustine.

Cary specializes in biomechanical issues and will discuss the importance of strengthening the core through movement and exercise. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from Jacksonville State University, and a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Miami.

GirlTalk will be held on Friday, April 17, at MacArthur Place, 29 E. MacArthur St., in Sonoma. There is no cost to attend GirlTalk. There is a $10 charge for food and non-alcoholic beverages, payable at the door. A no-host bar will be available.

Reservations are required, as space is limited and seats at recent GirlTalk events have filled quickly.

To reserve a place, contact Celia Kruse de la Rosa at 935-5257, or email ckrusedelarosa@svh.com.

GirlTalk is a discussion series just for women featuring timely health topics, sponsored by Sonoma Valley Hospital’s Women’s Health Center.
