Business owners considering projects to reduce their water usage can find financial assistance through the City of Sonoma’s business improvement loan program.

Water conservation projects such as irrigation efficiency systems, rainwater harvesting systems, and low-flow toilets are among the type of improvements that may qualify for matching funds in the form of a forgivable loan.

On-site water usage evaluations are available to help businesses identify ways to increase efficiency. The assessment will provide a conservation plan tailored to the business and identify potential rebates and ongoing cost savings. Landscape evaluations are also available for businesses with large landscaped areas, and commercial properties are eligible for the cash-for-grass rebate program. For businesses located in the city, contact the City’s water conservation coordinator, Mike Brett, at mbrett@sonomacity.org.

Designed to support business retention and creation, the city’s loan program also includes categories for improvements in building façades, disabled accessibility, energy efficiency and building rehabilitation. Businesses located within city limits can apply for matching loans of up to $5,000 per category and $10,000 overall.
