The Sonoma Ecology Center is looking for volunteers to complete the planting of a low-impact landscaping design at Sonoma Garden Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30.

Along with providing a model for sustainable agriculture, the Sonoma Garden Park is also a template for resource conservation in the Sonoma Valley. In a recent collaboration with local professionals, the Sonoma Ecology Center has undertaken an endeavor to conserve water at the Sonoma Garden Park by installing two new rainwater catchment tanks. As part of the water conservation initiatives at the park, the Sonoma Ecology Center is landscaping the entrance of Sonoma Garden Park with water-wise native plants and needs help to put these plants in the ground.

All ages and skill levels are welcome.

Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers will be getting dirty, so dress appropriately. Wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves, a snack, and a refillable water bottle.

Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. in front of the Straw Bale Barn next to the parking lot at the Sonoma Garden Park. The Sonoma Garden Park is located at 19996 Seventh St. E. between Denmark and East MacArthur streets.

For any questions regarding the nursery workdays at Sonoma Garden Park, contact Mike Zigler at 996-0712, ext. 102 or mike@sonomaecologycenter.org.
