John Francis Byrne died peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 19, 2015, in Sonoma. He was 90.

A native of San Francisco, John was a 28-year resident of Sonoma. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He worked in cable manufacturing for 30 years and as a gardener in the Bay Area for 24 years. John was a member of the Valley of the Moon Petanque Club, the Valley of the Moon Garden Club, SIRS, St. Leo’s Men’s Club, and the VFW Bear Flag Post #1943. His hobbies were building doll houses and playing golf.

John was the loving husband of the late Barbara Byrne; the adored father of Steven( Catherine) Byrne, Karen (Joseph) Alger, Donna Byrne and Gary(Paula) Byrne; stepfather of Cindi (Marty) Brown and Kathy Viall; dear brother of Aileen Blanton, George Byrne, and 11 other deceased siblings. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at St. Leo’s Catholic Church on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Relay for Life of Sonoma, 860 Napa Valley Corporate Way, Suite E, Napa, CA 94558, are preferred.
