VFW opens vets’ lounge

The VFW Bear Flag Post 1943 sponsored veterans lounge, “G.I. Joe’s,” will have its grand opening Friday, Jan. 23, at the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building.

“G.I. Joe’s” will be open every Friday from 4 to 10 p.m. for veterans and their guests. Verification of veterans status is required and can be in the form of VA card, retired military card, DD-214, or a veteran’s organization’s membership card. The veterans building is located at 126 First St. W., in Sonoma.

The VFW has started the new year by swearing in six new members at its January meeting five of whom served in the Iraq/Afghanistan wars.

New members include Ted Sexauer, Drew Kettler, Mel Smith, Fred Coglizer, Shawn Quackenbush and Brian Kucharski.
