Sonoma Valley Girl Scouts will be fanning out through Sonoma and Glen Ellen neighborhoods the three Saturdays after Christmas – Dec. 27, Jan. 3, and Jan. 10, to pick up Christmas trees for recycling.

Five local Cadette, Senior and Ambassador troops will be participating this year, earning money to take special trips.

The Scouts are asking for a donation of $10 – and checks made out to Girl Scouts are preferable to cash. Place the donation under the doormat rather than attached to the tree. Apartment complex residents may attach a note to the tree with their apartment number.

Place the tree at the curb by 9 a.m. Residents are asked to remove the tree stand. The Scouts cannot take decorations, tinsel, wreaths, garlands or flocked trees.

Detailed information, in both English and Spanish, can be found at SonomaGirlScouts.com/xmas.

To request a pick-up in a rural area, leave a message at 205-1233, or the phone number printed on a delivered flyer.

As another option, trees can be cut into pieces and put into the curbside yard waste container on the regular pick-up schedule.

In addition, up to two Christmas trees per household can be dropped off at no charge at the dump transfer station on Stage Gulch Road.
