Third graders in every Sonoma Valley Unified school will each receive his or her very own dictionary this month, thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Sonoma Plaza. 'This is our thirteenth year,' said Jackie Stubbs, who is in charge of the project.

Volunteers are distributing more than 300 age-appropriate picture dictionaries, each inscribed with the recipient's name. They are visiting all seven Valley elementary schools.

With nearly 5,000 books given out over the years, some of the earliest recipients are now graduating from college. Teachers provide the names and volunteers present the books in classrooms or during assemblies. Twenty volunteers transported the boxes of dictionaries and organized them for distribution.
