Sonoma County deputies are looking into a reported armed robbery Tuesday night outside the Glen Ellen Grocery.

According to a release from Lt. Al Vernon with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, at about 9:20 p.m., deputies from the Valley substation responded to a call in the 13000 block of Gibson Drive after a resident called 9-1-1 to report that a man drove on to her property and began yelling for help.

The motorist told the woman that he had been robbed and threatened by a man with a handgun. The victim said the armed suspect demanded his wallet, which he handed over.

The victim told deputies that he and the armed suspect were involved in a brief struggle when the suspect struck the victim in the head with the handgun. At that point, the victim jumped in his truck and drove a short distance with the three suspects following him.

The victim abandoned his truck in the front yard of a residence on Gibson Drive while being chased on foot by the suspects.

Deputies with assistance from officers from the California Highway Patrol and a canine unit conducted a neighborhood search but were unable to locate any of the three suspects.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for follow-up medical treatment.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Investigation Unit are conducting a follow-up investigation into this incident.
