Museum offering ‘Imagined Spaces’ workshop

The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art (SVMA) presents “Imagined Spaces: Architectural Remix” workshop from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1, with San Francisco artist and designer Nicole Markoff.

An experiment in concept and material, this will be a loose, fun, and creative workshop day. Markoff will lead participants in taking the remnants of plans unmade and remixing them into a whole new architectural design using source imagery from vintage architecture books, product and design blueprints, and elevation drafts. Channel inspiration from architectural groups like Superstudio, and imagine and meta-morph new landscapes with your cutting, pasting, inclusive drawing, and painting. Participants will consider the physical structure, as well as the liminal qualities of converting space.

Inspired by “Site and Senses: The Architecture of Aidlin Darling Design,” the day will begin with a walk through the show and a short image share, and then immediately to the cutting floor and studio workshop. Workshop fee, includes all supplies and admission to the exhibition, is $50 for SVMA members; $60 general public. Register now at svma.org.

Located at 551 B in a state-of-the-art facility. The museum is open to the general public during exhibitions Wednesday through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for individuals, free to the public on Wednesdays and always free to members. Join online at smva.org.
