Murphy’s hosts comedy shows Friday, Saturday

Comedy is returning to Murphy’s Irish Pub, 464 First St. E., for three shows next weekend.

Jasper Redd will headline the shows with Red Scott and Josh Argyle featured at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, and again at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21. The shows are hosted by Torio Van Grol.

Redd is considered one of the greatest comedians of all time. A giant amongst ants. Known for his eloquent delivery and amazing posture, he's delighted audiences all over the universe, including four solar systems, with his keen musings on the human condition. He made his TV debut on Comedy Central's Premium Blend in 2005 with his episode being the highest rated in the show's history and since then has appeared on thousands of TV programs such as Def Comedy Jam, Late Nite with Conan O'Brien and Comedy Central Presents, which aired in early 2009 and was watched by millions. In 2013, Redd taped his first hour stand-up special, Jazz Talk.

Growing up in San Jose, Scott never saw things the same way as other kids; he thought he was cool. Born in the early 1980s, he established himself as a trend-setter – fat, asthmatic, and socially inept years before Asperger’s was a syndrome or obesity an epidemic. On his way to finding the stage, Scott had several diversions, ranging from working as a software developer to delivering for Pizza Hut in South Central Los Angeles. His act encompasses everything from politics to absurdism to wordplay, all combined with deft crowd work.

When not on stage, Scott explores the myriad ways an individual can be indoors and fully protected from the sun. He’s performed in SF Sketchfest 2011-2013 and is a regular at The San Francisco Punch Line, The San Jose Improv, Rooster T Feathers, as well as the usual dive bars and laundromats.

Argyle is a standup comedian living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Before Argyle started standup, he did improv comedy for five years. During those five years, he played characters ranging from an angry sweaty overbearing father to an angry sweaty overbearing Scottish man and everything in between. Argyle started doing standup in 2010. Since then, he has played many clubs, colleges and dive bars across California. In 2013, he was a participant in the Sacramento comedy festival as well as the Ventura comedy festival. He is a contributing writer and San Francisco bureau chief of the popular humor magazine Savage Henry Independent Times.

Tickets are $15 presale and $20 at the door with a two-item minimum and are available at bpt.me/515396 or by calling 548-1225. Doors open an hour before showtime.
