SONOMA RACEWAY RECENTLY announced its 2014 major events schedule, highlighted by NASCAR, NHRA, IndyCar and World Touring weekends. Historic car racing will again open and close Sonoma Raceway’s 2014 season with the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival on May 17 and 18, and the Oct. 4 and 5 Classic Sports Racing Group Charity Challenge. Then the popular NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350 weekend takes place Friday through Sunday, June 20 to 22; followed by by the annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals the weekend of July 25 through 27 – preceded by the NHRA Division 7 Drag Races July 18 through 20 – with the annual IndyCar Series, featuring the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, taking place the weekend of Aug. 22 through 24; and the FIA World Touring Car Championship will be held from Sept. 20 to 21. BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS of Sonoma Valley is restarting it men’s basketball league for ages 25 years and older on Sunday nights in the club’s gym, with the season running from Dec. 8, to Feb. 23. CAL-HAZE GIRLS under-16-year-old A-level softball traveling team will hold tryouts for the summer tournament teams from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday, Nov 23, at Sonoma Valley High School’s field, and on Saturday, Dec 7, at Rancho Cotate High School’s field in Rohnert Park.
