Montini Preserve ceremony Saturday

There will be a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the City of Sonoma taking ownership of the Montini Preserve at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, the First Street West Trailhead.

The program will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and speeches from 1st District Supervisor Susan Gorin, Sonoma Mayor Tom Rouse, Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District General Manager Bill Keene and others. The district will also lead a short hike following the program.

On Oct. 20, the Open Space District transferred the Montini Open Space Preserve to the City of Sonoma, retaining a conservation easement on the property. The transfer is the culmination of a multi-year process that began with the district’s acquisition of the property in 2005 and included collaboration with multiple stakeholders.

The district worked with numerous partners including the Sonoma Overlook Trail, California State Parks, the City of Sonoma, the Sonoma Ecology Center and local volunteers to create a beautiful and superb outdoor experience for Sonoma residents and visitors. Onsite trails connect to the existing Overlook Trail and entrances connect to local streets and other walkways behind and near Vallejo’s home making it easily accessible to the community.
