The Sonoma Community Center will showcase the dynamic artwork of Brigitte McReynolds and Barbara Muhlhauser with an exhibit of new monoprints entitled “Mono Duo.” The exhibit will be on display from Oct. 4 to 25 in Gallery 212 with an opening reception set for Friday, Oct. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The two artists share a passion for monoprintmaking. McReynolds regularly offers popular monoprinting workshops at the center.

Originally from Germany, she began her art education in Munich and now travels annually to Italy to study monoprinting techniques in Florence and Venice.

Muhlhauser, also from Germany, worked as a creative director in Chicago before moving to San Francisco and founding the advertising and design firm of Muhlhauser and Young. Now retired, she regularly spends long hours in the printing making open studio program.

“I am inspired by their commitment and enthusiam for this artform. We are very excited to be presenting their work here in Gallery 212,” said Margaret Hatcher the center’s special projects manager.

“What I like about monoprinting, is that it is more immediate than painting in oil. You paint on a plexi plate, move over to the press and print. Tada – there it is,” said McReynolds.

Muhlhauser added, “There are always new discoveries to be made and, best of all, they happen in community with other artists.”

The artists staff classes and open studios at the Community Center. McReynolds will offer a one-day beginner’s workshop at the center on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., titled “Mono Printing with Brigitte McReynolds.” Muhlhauser monitors the center’s Printmaking Open Studio the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Gallery 212, open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is located upstairs in room 212 at the Sonoma Community Center, 276 E. Napa St, Sonoma.
