Martha Roddenbery Scott

Martha Roddenbery Scott, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Dec. 24, 2013, in Sonoma.

Born to Julien and Margaret Roddenbery, in Cairo, Ga., on April 1, 1935. She was proceeded in death by her parents; brothers, Julien Bostwick Roddenbery Jr., Ralph Jones Roddenbery Sr., Albert Coffman Roddenbery; and sister, Rebecca Roddenbery Walker.

Martha was a resident of Sonoma and San Francisco, since 1979. She graduated from Cairo High School in 1953 and was a leader on the school basketball team and played the saxophone in the school band. She graduated in 1957 from Randolph Macon College in Lynchburg, Va., where she double majored in piano and voice. She was elected president of student government her senior year and was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She worked at the United Nations in New York where she met her husband, Jack Scott, of Winnetka, Ill.  She also lived in Chicago, Cleveland, San Francisco and Sonoma, and has wonderful friends from her time in each of these cities.

Martha had a successful business career with Baker Furniture where she was general manager of the Cleveland showroom and successfully opened the San Francisco showroom in 1979. She was an active leader in numerous cultural and social charities including the Junior League of Cleveland, Sonoma League for Historic Preservation and the Sonoma Maysonnave House restoration project.

She will be remembered by her friends and family for her sense of humor, her passion for entertaining, and her love of family. Martha Scott was a true character and contributor in everything she did.

She is survived by her son, John M. Scott III, and his wife, Deborah, who reside in London; her son, Andy Scott, and his wife, Stacey, who reside in San Francisco; and her five grandchildren – Olivia, Isabella, Audrey, Jack and Nathan.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the Calvary Presbyterian Church at 2515 Fillmore Street in San Francisco with a reception ?to follow.
