Mark Robert Guntren

Mark Robert Guntren, 55, was born on July 16, 1958, at St. Luke’s Hospital in San Francisco, to his proud parents, Theodore and Patricia Guntren. He spent most of his life in the City and was proud of that fact. He attended St. Emydius grammar school, then on to St. Ignatius High School (SI); from there he spent his college years at St. Mary’s in Moraga, where he studied finance in preparation for his future career in the real estate profession.

Mark played football and rugby starting at an early age. He went on to play for St. Ignatius and received the honor of “All City Fullback.” He went on to play football for St. Mary’s.

The quality of dedication he exhibited in sports followed him into the business world where he was successful in both real estate broker and property manager. Mark and his brother Joe came together and formed an additional partnership, which has also been very successful.

Mark was married in 1981 to his high school sweetheart, Janice Kelcheva. They enjoyed many years together before she passed in 2003.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Guntren; and his stepdaughter, Hailee Whittington; his three siblings, Christine Dreyer, Joseph Guntren and John Guntren; his nephews and nieces, Nicholas Goyhenteche, Theodore Guntren, Joseph Guntren, Kelsey Guntren and Anna Rose Dreyer. Mark will be deeply missed by all members of his family and friends.

Visitation and vigil will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, from noon to 7 p.m. at Duggan’s Mission Chapel. The funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 24, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Agua Caliente, Sonoma, at 10:30 a.m. with a luncheon to follow and the burial to be determined.
