North Valley wines have their day in the sun next weekend|

Kenwood and Glen Ellen wineries will host a slightly new version of their annual Savor Sonoma Valley next weekend, featuring barrel tasting on March 18 and 19.

The whole event, sponsored by the Heart of Sonoma Valley Association, will feature 17 wineries who will showcase their 2016 vintage wines straight from their barrels and no food pairing.

At the event – held during this relative quiet time in the winemaking year – guests will get to meet and chat with winemakers, taste some of their reserve wine in caves and on crushpads, tour wineries and vineyards.

According to HOSVA director Josie Gay, “Instead of focusing on food and wine pairings this year, we are putting the spotlight back on our unbelievable variety of wines and barrel sampling.”

Participating Wineries include Deerfield Ranch Winery, Kenwood Vineyards, La Rochelle, Ledson Winery & Vineyards, Little Vineyards, Loxton Cellars, Madrone Estate Winery, Manzanita Creek Winery, Mayo Family Winery, Muscardini Cellars, Orpheus Wines, Paradise Ridge Winery, Spann Vineyards, Suncé Winery & Vineyards, St. Anne’s Crossing Winery, Ty Caton Vineyards, and VJB Vineyards & Cellars.

$65 advance for weekend pass or $75 at door, $50 Sunday only. Designated drivers free. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Tickets at heartofsonomavalley.com or 431-1137.
