Pints pouring again at Murphy’s in Sonoma

Sonomans back ‘on the lash’ with reopening of venerable Irish pub|

The Coll family, of the very Abbey Tavern in San Francisco, re-opened Murphy’s Irish Pub under their new ownership on Tuesday, just in the nick of time to warm it up for St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, March 17.

Murphy’s will be open from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. daily, with the kitchen open until 9 p.m. weekdays and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Among the physical changes are padded, deep-red banquets and several large television screens in the bar for watching soccer and other sports.

Trivia nights are back on Wednesdays. Get your seats before 7:30 p.m.

The extensive whiskey list is a holdover from what former managing partner Sondra Bernstein brought in. It includes a wide range of Irish and Scotch whiskeys, ryes, bourbons and sour mashes, single barrel, small batch, and some from Tennessee. The new menus include a list of Bar Bites such as roasted pork belly with shaved apples, crispy calamari, ham and Irish cheddar cheese croquettes, fried goat cheese, sautéed asparagus, and Murphy’s chicken wings ($9.50 to $11.95).

The bigger menu ranges from bangers and mash and a burger to fish and chips, New York steak, pork tenderloin, “Mary’s chicken,” and mussels ($15.95 to $22.95), several salads under $10 and sides such as crispy truffle fries, onion rings and corned beef poutine (all under $9). Kids menu too. No mushy peas or colcannon yet. 464 First St. E., Sonoma. 935-0660.
