Events in honor of the Valley’s second largest crop|

Sonomans have two upcoming opportunities to learn more about olives, Sonoma Valley’s second largest crop.

Frank Figone of Figone’s Olive Oil Co.: A free Feb. 3 event where Frank J. Figone, who has farmed olives for 40 years and made olive oil for 29 years, will discuss fruit fly issues, pruning, irrigation, soil conditions and harvesting techniques at his olive oil mill. Don Landis’s Olive Odyssey: A free event taking place Feb. 10 and 11 with olive expert Don Landis at the Olive Press and Jacuzzi Family Winery. Guests can taste lots of olives, get recipes, learn from Landis and other olive aficionados, speak with experts from U.C. Davis Olive Center, and get growing tips from Olive Grove Nursery.
