VinExpo, the largest wine exhibition and promotion in the world, has launched a new section called VinExpo Explorer. VinExpo CEO Guillaume Deglise announced in Vienna, Austria recently that the 2018 event will come to Sonoma County for a two-day experience Sept. 23 to 25 next year.

The management board of Vinexpo and Vinexpo Overseas is chaired by the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which has been the majority shareholder of Vinexpo since it was established in 1981.

Currently VinExpos are held in Bordeaux, France in uneven years, starting in 1981 with 524 exhibitors from 21 countries 11,000 professional visitors from 50 countries. By 2015 it had grown to 2,350 exhibitors. Vinexpo has also launched Vinexpo Asia-Pacific in 1998, Vinexpo Americas, Vinexpo Nippon in Japan, and VinExpo Hong Kong.

The group also sponsored and contributed to the building of the must-see fabulous La Cité des Civilisations du Vin (Centre for Wine Culture and Tourism) which opened last year in Bordeaux.

Caroline Shaw, president of the Board of Sonoma County Vintners and executive vice president of Jackson Family Wines, attended the press conference and spoke for county wineries when asked if they would be interested in more international sales. Shaw said, 'There are a lot of small wineries who would like to get into the international marketplace.

Now the buyers will come to the neighborhood,' instead of a few of our vintners going abroad to unfamiliar markets.
