Napa resident to revive retro Doggie Diner

While there was never a Doggie Diner in Sonoma, there might be one in Napa’s future, according to the Napa Valley Register.

After Doggie Diners closed in the 1980s after a 40-year run, Napa resident Kip Atchley bought one of the iconic 7-foot tall, 700-pound fiberglass dog heads that topped each restaurant. It was almost as if the hot dogs were secondary.

Atchley found the then-dilapidated dog head, sort of resembling a dachshund with a bow tie, in a warehouse in Vallejo and got the owner to sell it to him by promising to restore it.

Now, apparently, Atchley has towed his restoration project to the corner of Silverado Trail and Souza Lane were he hopes to build a new and authentic 1940s Doggie Diner with his partners.
