Food: Father’s Day, Sonoma style…

Dads just wanna have steak|

While many Dads like to stay home on the couch watching baseball, go to the beach, take a hike, or ignore the whole thing on Father’s Day, some actually like to be taken out just like moms do.

Most restaurants will serve their regular menus for Father’s Day Sunday but a few have added some extra (and sometimes macho) treats for the day.

Here’s a new idea: Beer and Chocolate pairings for Dad, combining samplings of CocoaPlanet Chocolate Factory & French Café chocolates with Carneros Brewing Company brews served at your table on CocoaPlanet’s lovely patio.

Try the Carneros Brewing’s Negra IPA with Vanilla Espresso chocolates, Blood Orange Sour with CocoaPlanet’s Mandarin Orange chocolates, plus a Samuel Smith organic chocolate stout with Salted Caramel chocolates.

Or if Dad prefers wine, they also offer wine and chocolate pairings. Full lunch menu will be available including mew menu items of chilled ratatouille (appetizer or entrée) and a duck breast salad. $10 for 3 pairings of beer and chocolate. Noon to 2 p.m., Sunday June 18. Limited seating .available. 921 Broadway, Sonoma. Reserve at 343-7453.

Saddles Steakhouse at MacArthur Place will have the mother (or father) of all hunks of man’s meat in the form of a “Tomahawk,” what Chef Dana Jaffe calls “the Fred Flintstone of steaks that can measure between 16 to 18 inches long,” including bone. Chef Jaffe also says they butcher them in the Saddles kitchen and that they run 46 to 48 ounces each, so big she might have to buy new plates to serve them. Saddles will also offer an “8 ounce bone-in filet,” and an American Kobe beef filet, all of these to be served at both lunch and dinner on Sunday. 29 E. MacArthur, Sonoma. Reserve at 933-3191. Macarthurplace.com.

Breakaway Café will offer a bittersweet chocolate waffle with fresh strawberries and bananas, whipped cream and maple syrup, a fried egg and Andouille sausage skillet at breakfast, a grilled pork chop with loaded baked potato and corn on the cob ($25) and surf & turf of a petite filet with spicy prawns, mashed potatoes and summer squash ($32), and chocolate stout cake ($7.50). 19101 Sonoma Highway, Sonoma. 996-8776. Breakawaycafe.com. No reservations.

Muscardini Cellars will have marinated tri-tip and smoked sausages from Bud’s Custom Meats served on a bun with baked beans and salad ($15), along with a Corvette car show in the Muscardini parking lot. Barrel and grappa tasting all day, preceded Saturday by barbecued sausages from Bud’s ($12) and live music by Magic on the patio. 1 to 4 p.m. 9380 Sonoma Highway, Kenwood.

Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn has Father’s Day golf and spa packages, but for those seeking a cool poolside burger, check out their man-size “Mission” burger served with a house-made “Bruno” bun and “Mindful Meats” organic, non-GMO, pasture-raised eight-ounce beef burger. Dads can add smoked Fiscallini cheddar, caramelized onions, bacon and pimenton aioli if Dad wishes. They will be pouring A3 (Santé Chef de Cuisine Andrew’s Apricot Ale) made In partnership with Sonoma Springs Brewery. Reserve at 939-2415.
