‘Jewish delicacies’ at a Night in the Catskills

Shir Shalom comedy fundraiser to provide yucks, yums March 4|

The members of Congregation Shir Shalom will present a possibly wild event called “A Night in the Catskills” on Saturday, March 4 at Burlingame Hall, which they are dubbing for the evening, “Hotel Burlingame.” Whether you ever vacationed in the Catkskills or have just read or heard about the traditions, this should be fun.

Catherine Venturini of Cuvée Wine Country Events will provide “Jewish delicacies with a modern twist” starting with passed hors d’ouevres of beef pigs in a blanket, chicken liver pâté on lightly toasted challah, white fish salad in endive spears, and beet borscht with crème fraîche. The family-style dinner will include lettuces with Honey Crisp apples, spiced pecans and goat cheese, Kasha Varnishkes, green beans and carrots, vegetarian eggplant casserole with matzo farfel, Israeli chicken with tomato relish, and Jewish-style beef pot roast. Martinis and Manhattans included. Viennese dessert table will feature éclairs, strudel and mini cheese cakes.

It doesn’t matter if you are Jewish or not, you will laugh at Lisa Geduldig, founder of San Francisco’s Kung Pao Kosher Comedy, comedian and vocalist Dave Eshelman of Nigel and Clive, and a full floor show featuring Jeffo and the Concords, a five-piece band.

$125. 6:30 to 10 p.m. 252 W. Spain St. Funds go to education and social justice projects. Shir-shalom.org/catskills.
