Quarryhill to host plant sale in Glen Ellen

Fall is the best time to plant, according to garden experts.|

“Fall is the best time to plant in California because the winter rains will help the plants establish themselves,” says Quarryhill nursery manager Samantha Myhre. “Spring planting requires much more diligence with watering schedules.”

That’s why the botanical garden is hosting its annual Fall Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22.

There will be more than 130 species of trees, shrubs and herbaceous perennials for sale, many of which are unavailable in the nursery trade.

Quarryhill is a 25-acre wild woodland garden at 12841 Highway 12, in Glen Ellen.

The inventory includes several species of magnolias, maples, roses, dogwoods and camellias, as well as attractive and rare plants.

If possible, bring a box or container to carry the plants you purchase.

Proceeds from the Fall Plant Sale help support the mission of Quarryhill Botanical Garden of conserving plants and slowing species loss.
