Exploring medicinal plants in Sonoma

Quarryhill to host walk to identify plants in the collection that are recognized for varying health benefits.|

Quarryhill Botanical Garden in Glen Ellen is offering a Medicinal Plant Walk from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Sept. 23, led by author/grower Peggy Schafer of the Chinese Medicinal Herb Farm and Chinese medicine practitioner Sean Fannin. Participants will stroll through the main garden to identify plants in the collection that are recognized for varying health benefits in traditional Chinese medicine.

Peggy Schafer is the author of “The Chinese Medicinal Herb Farm: A Cultivator’s Guide to Small-Scale Organic Herb Production” and a frequent lecturer at colleges, center for Asian medicine, conferences and farming events, where she addresses herb quality, cultivation and conservation, and issues affecting Chinese herbs. Sean Fannin specializes in Chinese herbalism, medical qigong, and client education as a clinical practitioner of Chinese medicine at the Center for Traditional Health Arts in Petaluma.

The fee for the Medicinal Plant walk is $20 general/$15 for members. Register in advance at quarryhillbg.org/medicinalplantwalk.html.
