Dad’s day deals at Sonoma restaurants

Fear not fathers, these restaurants haven’t forgotten...|

We all know about the Hallmark hype for Mother’s Day, and maybe those of us who are mothers are grateful that the marketing helps our families remember to honor moms.

But we don’t see much like that to honor or inundate dads with presents, take him out for a meal, or anything else.

So what to do? That is if you are fortunate enough to have your father around.

How about giving him flowers? Men like flowers because they never expect them. Or get him a plant and help him plant it if you are able so that he will think of you every time he sees it.

Wash his vehicle, mow the lawn, take him for a walk, roll or hike, escape with him to the ocean or the mountains, or let him play his favorite music. Or sit on the couch in his shorts.

Many dads want to be the one to barbecue – that hunter gatherer thing. But offer to do it for him.

Here are a few outings he might enjoy:

Cornerstone will feature a Pizza Popup with pizza made in the Sunset magazine outdoor test kitchen’s wood-fire oven to be made by popular Ramekins chef instructor Michael Kalanty. 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. As well, Prohibition Spirits will have its shuffleboard table properly sanded for Dad and will give him a 15 percent off on spirit purchases in the Prohibition tasting room 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Glen Ellen Star chef and co-owner Ari Weisswasser will serve chicken fried abalone and chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches.

Cochon Volant owner Rob Larman says that, “In celebration of Father’s Day we will be serving the best barbecue in Sonoma all day.”

Suite D offers a Father’s Day Pig Roast on June 17 with wood-fired roasted pig, tortillas, black beans, rice, pickled vegetables, salsa roja, corn salad, guacamole crema and cotija cheese; a wedge salad with bacon, mini potato rolls, pulled pork, and a cookie and ice cream bar. Beer and wine available for purchase. $5 wine corkage, free for Suite D. members. $40 or $34 for Suited D members and $25 for children under 13. One seating at 11:30 a.m. 21800 Schellville Road, Suite D, Sonoma. 933-3000, ext. 10.

Breakaway Café adds a grilled Niman Ranch pork chop and eggs with potatoes and salsa verde ($18) to its regular breakfast menu. At dinner the three course prix fix menu includes cream of roasted corn soup topped with cotija cheese and gilled poblano chili, a grilled rib eye steak with baked potato and sour cream, ”cream of spinach,” and crispy onion strings. Dessert brings a flourless chocolate cake $39. Brunch 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., dinner 5 to 8:30 p.m. with reservations for this dinner only. 19101 Sonoma Highway, Sonoma. 996-5949.

Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn will serve guys a “man-size Mission burger” served with a housemade bun and Mindful Meats’ organic, non-GMO, grass fed 8-ounce beef burger at its Water Tower Bar ($25). They will also pour FSMI’s A3 beer, created in partnership with Sonoma Springs Brewery.
