Inaugural Jack London painting contest in Sonoma

Staff seeks paintings inspired by the State Park, Dennis Ziemienski to serve as judge|

“We are inspired daily by the beauty and allure of the land at Jack London State Historic Park,” said Deborah Large of Jack London State Historic Park. “A beautiful light transcends the park illuminating historic stone buildings of the Beauty Ranch enclosed by Redwoods and Douglas Firs, which highlight the vineyards, and there is a story to be told about the 2,000-year-old Ancient Redwood, gnarled and misshapen by the impact of the passing years. The ruins of the Wolf House may inspire you to tell the story of Jack London’s house of dashed dreams.”

Jack London Park staff hope that these visual delights will inspire local painters to express themselves in watercolors, oils and acrylics to create a painting that is inspired by Jack London State Historic Park. Adults 18 and older are invited to enter. Entries close on Sept. 1.

First place will receive $1,000, second place $250 and third place $100. There will also be seven honorable mention awards of a Jack London Park Pass, worth $49 each.

The winning top 10 paintings will be displayed at the awards ceremony.

The winning images of artwork will be posted on the Jack London State Historic Park website. The entry fee is $25 for park members; $35 nonmembers.

The contest will be judged by artist Dennis Ziemienski.
