Spring Lake swim lagoon opens Saturday

Parks offers “Vamos a Nadar/Let’s Go Swimming” program through early July offering low-cost bilingual swim lessons to children|

Sonoma County Regional Parks launches its 2018 summer aquatics season on Saturday, May 26, with the opening of the Spring Lake swimming lagoon – including the popular inflatable, floating playground – and boat rentals on the lake.

Admission options to the floating playground include a $10 a person fee for adults as well as a $20 day pass that includes an hour of paddle board or boat rental and a $60 season pass that includes daily admission and boat rental. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

The first of its kind in Sonoma County, the floating playground debuted two summers ago and was a hit with families from around the Bay Area. The play zone is a network of inflatable slides, climbing walls, bridges, balance beams, jumps, trampolines, and other stations. The playground also can be reserved for parties and special events by calling 565-2267.

The lagoon continues to include lifeguarded areas for free swim and lap swim, with no admission fee for swimming. Swim hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 26 through Labor Day.

Boat rentals on Spring Lake also begins May 26 and will be available daily through the summer and weekends in the fall. Rentals include paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, and pedal boats. Rates start at $12 an hour. The rental area is next to the swimming lagoon, which is reached through the park entrance at 393 Violetti Rd. Parking is $7 or free for Regional Parks members.

Regional Parks also resumes its seasonal Russian River safety patrol on Memorial Day weekend. The patrol is a roving team of lifeguards and rangers who visit Steelhead, Sunset, Riverfront, and Forestville River Access beaches Fridays through Mondays. They talk with beachgoers about water safety. Life jackets, which are strongly recommended on the river, are available for free use at each of these sites.

Regional Parks continues to partner with city recreation departments and the Sonoma County Family YMCA to offer the “Vamos a Nadar/Let’s Go Swimming” program through early July. The program offers low-cost bilingual swim lessons to children and water-safety training to parents.
