Hands-on art activities at the Tuesday night markets

Tuesday night farmers market now to feature art activities|

The Sonoma Community Center is offering “Art at the Market” every Tuesday from May through September at the Valley of the Moon Certified Farmers Market.

“Each week the market attracts people from across the Valley to the beautiful Plaza for food and music and now they will be able to enjoy hands-on art as well,” said SCC executive director John Gurney.

The center provides tools, materials and instruction to offer every interested child and family access to free, fun activities that support play and positive exchange through creative expression, located next to the Bike Valet.

Activities will be lead by the center’s staff, which will provide participants with hands-on experiences in clay, painting, fiber, collage and more.

“The activities will feature unique ways to spark children’s interest in art and creativity, cultivating imagination and material engagement,” says Kala Stein, director of ceramics and arts at the Sonoma Community Center. “We have particular focus on youth this season as we are developing our year-around children’s programming including camps, after-school classes, private parties, and family art activities.”

With financial support from the Sonoma Plein Air Foundation, Kiwanis Club of Sonoma Plaza and the City of Sonoma, the SCC plans to bring art to the community all season long.

“The Sonoma Community Center is dedicated to offering art-based experiences at an affordable rate to reduce barriers and provide access to those across the economic spectrum,” said Gurney.
