Strawberry stand opens for the season

Watmaugh strawberries, red, ripe and delicious, now ready at family fruit stand.|

Watmaugh strawberries are back at the corner of Watmaugh Road and Arnold Drive. The flags weren’t flying by 11:30 a.m. on opening day, Tuesday, but fear not – the San family’s stand has reopened and will be open daily.

A basket (plus tastes) is now $3.50; three baskets for $9.

When asked about whether the strawberries are organic, Mr. San replied, “We don’t use any pesticides. We feed these to our own family.”

For now they just have strawberries and will have vegetables at a later date, said San.

As early as Sunday evening the Watmaugh strawberries were on a local menu – and the stand hadn’t even opened yet for the season.

While this week the strawberries were a little lighter red than in high season, they were still sweet and delicious.
