Learn about straw bale gardening in Sonoma

It’s an innovative alternative for beginners.|

The Master Gardener Program presents the “Option of Straw Bale Gardening” with Marybeth Hull at the Sonoma Valley Library at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24.

Straw bale gardening is an alternative for the beginner gardener, a way of adaptive gardening for the disabled gardener, or for a gardener with limited space. Straw bales create the biodegradable equivalent of a raised bed. Plants thrive in a mud-free, weed-free medium that turns to mulch after a growing season or two. Almost any vegetable, herb or annual flower can be grown in a straw bale.

Marybeth Hull is the Luther Burbank District Director of the California Garden Club and an active member of the Santa Rosa Garden Club. Currently she is part of the Sonoma County Master Gardeners Propagation for Education program.

The event is free. The library is located at 755 W. Napa St.
