Pruning for all seasons Aug. 3 in Sonoma

Talk and presentation at Veterans Building|

The Valley of the Moon Garden Club will host experienced gardener Maile Arnold on Thursday, Aug. 3, for a talk and PowerPoint presentation for the home gardener on pruning many varieties of plants and trees. She will show photos of specimens before and after pruning, describe the time of year to cut them back, and explain the reasons for the way they are trimmed.

Some varieties of plants even in the same family, with the same common name, are pruned in a different manner. Many years of experience has taught Arnold the proper way to prune that keeps the plant or tree healthy and thriving.

Arnold grew up in Hawaii and her garden in Sebastopol is an abundant floral haven, some images which will be shown.

She and her husband, Warren Arnold, a stone sculptor, have goats for milk and cheese, chickens, and a friendly gold tabby garden cat. The garden has been featured on many tours.

The meeting is at the Sonoma Veterans’ Memorial Building, 126 First St. West. Meet and greet time is at 6:30 p.m. where garden resource tables can be viewed, and the meeting begins at 7. A plant raffle and complimentary refreshment follow. For information, call 935-8986.
