Bertrands mark quarter century at Glen Ellen Inn

Proprietors celebrate silver anniversary at restaurant|

Chris and Karen Bertrand are quietly celebrating their 25th year at Glen Ellen Inn, having bought it from Bob Rice way back then. And that is longevity in the restaurant business.

With Chris's cooking background and Karen's experience waitressing through college, together they saved every penny and purchased Glen Ellen Inn.

Eventually they bought the building from Bob Wallace, enlarged it, and added a few guest cottages. In fact, Karen went into labor with their daughter (now a sophomore at U.C. Santa Barbara) while waiting tables.

A rumor flew around Glen Ellen that the Bertrands were buying the building across Arnold Drive. That did not work out due to structural problems and zoning issues. They say they hope that whoever buys the building will take good care of it and be good neighbors to everyone.
