Romantic dinner under the fireworks

Lots of people have their own traditions for the Fourth of July, which might include a barbecue, a big salad, or a pot luck somewhere. If you want to have someone else cook and serve and watch the fireworks, with no clean-up afterward, here are a couple of options. Some restaurants are closing for the holiday.

Dine on the patio under the stars and watch the fireworks -- practically under the fireworks -- at the General’s Daughter with oodles of western food, live music by the Vivants, and buffets of barbecue pork with honey chipotle sauce, barbecued chicken, 5th Street Farm veggies, potato salad and heirloom tomato salad; shrimp boil, melons and root beer float stations; housemade truffle chips and onion dip; red, white and blue chocolate brownies, housemade M&M cookies, vanilla panna cotta with berries and a candy bar. $85. 7 to 10 p.m. 400 W. The Depot Hotel has a couple of tables left for its sought-after sumptuous Italian buffet overlooking its pool and the city’s fireworks. Lucky diners will enjoy a variety of goodies such as bistecca alla Fiorentina of grass fed Porterhouse steak with 30-year-old Balsamico, fried oysters, roast chicken with tomatoes, pork loin with Taggiasca olives, orecchiette pasta, tortelloni with shiitake mushrooms, calamari, prawns and scallops, salads, local and Italian cheeses, and desserts served at your table.
