Sonoma students in juried art show in Napa

“Outside Looking In” runs through April 29|

Justin-Siena art students put out a call this winter for art submission from all the area high schools. The resulting exhibit, “Outside Looking In,” was curated and installed by art students at the Napa high school. A reception and awards presentation celebrating the exhibit will take place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at Napa Valley Museum in Yountville. Admission is free.

The schools represented by their student artists include Justin, Sonoma Valley High School, New Tech High School, Vintage High School, Napa High School and St. Helena High School.

“Outside Looking In” runs through May 1 at the Napa Valley Museum in Yountville. Eight students are jurying the entries. The team chose the work to be displayed and designed the exhibition space in the museum’s Spotlight Gallery. An awards reception is planned to acknowledge Best of Show, first and second place winners on Saturday, April 29.

“To me, ‘Outside Looking In’ reflects the role we play in the lives of those we interact with every day,” said junior Juliette Nast. “As an outsider looking in, we have a much different perspective than a person who is part of the group or situation we are observing. We could be an outsider in an infinite number of ways, from the more obvious and literal to the less noticeable and more emotional... I think this theme could also be interpreted using its opposite: “inside looking out” or what it’s like for a person who has assimilated themselves into an environment (now an insider) and is looking out with a new mindset.”
