Drummers count off Earth Care Fest

Will be held Saturday as part of Earth Day|

Kicking off the second annual Earth Day, Earth Care Festival at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, will be the drummers of Sonoma County Taiko.

The group will perform a brief program in the Peace Garden at First Congregational Church/Congregation Shir Shalom, 252 W. Spain St. in Sonoma. After their performance there will be an opportunity for audience participation.

Sonoma County Taiko is a community-based nonprofit organization, whose mission is “To build a community of acceptance, harmony, and respect through our love of Taiko.”

SCT has been active in the performing arts scene in Sonoma County since it was established in 1995. The group regularly performs at local schools, events and festivals, in addition to offering workshops and classes to adults and children. The membership of Sonoma County Taiko draws upon the diversity of its community and reflects the variety and unity of Sonoma County.

The Earth Care Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and welcomes all to attend the festivities. Families with children will find hands-on art activities and those wishing to purchase food will be able to do so either from the Lovin’ Oven team from Sonoma Valley Teen Services, or a locally-sourced, farm to table lunch prepared by local chef Nancy Ladd.
