Docents needed at Quarryhill

No botanical knowledge is needed.|

Quarryhill is a 25-acre woodland botanical garden nestled in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, featuring over 25,000 wild-origin plants in a naturalistic setting.

According to Quarryhill managers, visitation is at an all-time high. In order to meet the growing demand, Quarryhill is seeking more docents. The need to raise awareness and educate people on how to protect endangered plants is greater than ever before as described by the Quarryhill Director William McNamara: “In this rapidly changing world, one of the great unspoken tragedies is the loss of plant and animal species throughout the world. Quarryhill is playing a leading role in creating awareness about this crisis and is actively preserving hundreds of endangered plants. Let’s work together to do everything we can to make it possible for our grandchildren and their children to inherit the same beautiful and wonderful world of countless unique plants and animals.”

Volunteers need not have a botanical or horticultural background to be a docent. Quarryhill staff will teach volunteers everything they need to know.

Training will be held on six Wednesdays, from March 1 to April 5, from 9 a.m. to noon. To sign up, call Eva Corbin at 996-6027 or email her at ecorbin@quarryhillbg.org.
