The pretty new clubhouse of the Boyes Springs Improvement Club, situated on the highway near the business center of the Springs, has been completed by Contractor M. Y. Hansen, and is a credit to the enterprise and initative of the progressive and energetic members of the improvement club. … One of the big oil companies is about to enter the Sonoma field and has been negotiating for an oil station site on Broadway. The property of Louis Picetti, opposite the local Ford agency, is being considered. … An important business deal was consummated Thursday when E. N. Cunning, former prominent restaurant man of San Francisco, acquired the Plaza Hotel from M. Ritchie, who has conducted it since 1923. Mr. Cunning bought the furniture and business from Ritchie and secured a good lease from Sam Sebastiani, owner of the property. … The people of Glen Ellen and surrounding district have subscribed to date $900 toward the purchase of the little chemical engine which they have decided to buy for the protection of property in that vicinity. The Northwestern Pacific has donated a lot near the bridge for a firehouse, and soon a volunteer fire department will be organized.

On Tuesday evening the Mardi Gras festivities dance and midnight supper at the Sonoma Mission Inn will be the jolliest pre-Lenten affair on the calendar, and one which should attract many who have the following holiday, Washington’s birthday, to spend in the country. … Sonoma Valley farmers seem to have started something worthwhile in their practical and decided views on the marketing of their crops. It will be recalled that the local Farm Center recently enlisted the interest of the Grange in a plan whereby the farmers would sell direct, establishing headquarters in the San Francisco commission district or at other trade points. … When the 1928 baseball season gets underway here next Sunday the Vineburg Cubs will start training with a team made up almost entirely of local players. Last year the management was forced to import several players, but they will abandon this plan the coming season, as they figure better results can be obtained from a team consisting of Sonoma Valley boys. Manager Roy Tynan states that the only player from the outside that he has retained is Lefty Johnson, who pitched very good ball during 1927.

Martin Claus, a nephew of Mrs. Agnes Claus of this city, was recently issued an airplane transport pilot license by the government and is now a full fledged pilot operating out of Mill Field. In celebration of this event, Claus flew from Mill Field last Thursday evening and circled several times over the city of Sonoma, and thus paid respects to Mrs. Claus. … The Board of Supervisors have offered for sale the Garrison property in the Alpine hills, purchased by them some time ago for the purpose of establishing a preventatorium for tubercular patients. This move is the culmination of a controversy which arose when Mrs. Edythe Tate Thompson, Chief of the State Bureau of Tuberculosis, objected to the site chose, and refused to lend her endorsement for state aid. … Mrs. A. J. Borie, custodian at the Old Sonoma Mission, states that from Jan. 1 to Feb. 14, 1,600 visitors registered and viewed the old mission and the curios shown there. … Mrs. Luther Burbank is to be the guest of honor this afternoon at a meeting of the Woman’s Club, when the Garden Section will put on the program at a silver tea. District Chairman, Mrs. M. E. Arner of Vallejo, will also be an honored guest.
