A new exhibit, titled “Humata,” at the Sonoma Community Center art gallery marks the end of artist Austyn Taylor’s five-month residency in at Sonoma Ceramics.

In her time living and working at the center, Taylor has taught clay classes for all ages including a popular “Ceramics Sculpture Class” and a workshop for the Mentoring Alliance. Her next workshop, “Sculpting Human Facial Features,” is now accepting enrollment.

Taylor’s residency concludes with a solo exhibit in the center’s Gallery 212 that opens Nov. 18 and runs through Dec. 11.

Taylor is a visual artist, educator and storyteller. She began her career earning a BFA in illustration and then a master’s in art education from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She received her MFA in ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.

“Humata,” from the Zoroastric religious tradition, translates as “happy/balanced thoughts.” At 6 p.m. on opening night, Taylor will present her concepts in a free gallery talk.

Open to all artists living within the United States, the all-inclusive program culminates in a gallery exhibition at the completion of each residency.
