Pet Tales: Kitten and canine news from Sonoma Valley

Lots of kitten and canine news from Nancy King of Pets Lifeline.|

October has always been one of my favorite months and to celebrate October with all our cat lovers, we have a Catoberfest adoption special. All kittens/cats over four months are only $50 and for the month of October all black cats are just $13 every day.

It is also National Feral Cat Day this Sunday, Oct.16. We celebrate all our feral cats in Sonoma and want them to live happy healthy lives. If you think you have a feral around you, give us a call. We’ll loan and show you how to use a humane trap, spay/neuter for free and you can release them back where you found them. Pets Lifeline has spay/neutered more than 325 feral cats and released them to their natural environment. Considering that two single cats can be responsible for over 450,000 kittens over a seven-year period, we are hoping this has had a bit of an impact. Even though we have seen higher numbers this year, imagine those numbers if those 325 cats hadn’t been fixed.

We also have the Bay Area Pet Fair both Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday Oct. 16 at the Marin County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is always a really fun event and for every animal we adopt from Oct. 15 to 21, we get a bonus $50 per animal from Pet Food Express, the sponsor of the event. So if you are thinking about adopting, please consider coming to the Pet Fair or to Pets Lifeline before Oct. 21.

Big shout out to our wonderful friend Charlie Masson who has been a bit under the weather lately. Charlie is 91 years young and has been an integral part of Pets Lifeline since we opened our doors in 1984. He also has two adorable pooches from Pets Lifeline named Yardley and Carlos who keep him on his toes (especially Carlos). Charlie, up until recently, was still driving kittens to their spay/neuter appointments for us. He is such an amazing friend and a wonderful guy. Sending you some big love from the animals and all of us at Pets Lifeline, Charlie!

On Friday, Oct. 21, Pets Lifeline is collaborating with Sonoma Overnight Shelter and Homeless With Pets to host a veterinary wellness clinic for our homeless friends who need vet services for their animals. If you can help us with donated sandwiches, call Lissette Valdez at 996-4577, ext. 104 or email her at lissettevaldez@petslifeline.org.

As you may know, when we have canine kennel space, we try to reach out to other shelters who are experiencing overpopulation. Recently, we just brought some sweet Chihuahua dogs from the Humane Society of the North Bay to Pets Lifeline to join our few residents who are still “in house.” Check them out on our website.

Until we meet again... peace, love and paws.
