SCC to host mother of all garage sales

It should be a big sale. All the stall sold out weeks in advance.|

On Saturday, Oct. 1 the east parking lot at the Sonoma Community Center will be filled with local vendors selling their treasures and collectibles. The sale will open for buyers at 9 a.m. and close at 12:30 p.m. Admission is free with plenty of parking available.

Members of the SCC were invited to rent a space for $25 each and the stalls were sold out by mid-September. Sellers were required to be members, to “keep it local,” explained SCC board chair Annie Bauer.

The advance buzz on the Oct. 1 date was enough to convince SCC officials to add a second date on Saturday, Nov. 5.

John Tamiazzo, the new executive director of SCC said that the ideas is to offer garage sale space to folks who may not have any.

“Lots of folks would like to have a garage sale of their own but don’t have the right space at the homes or their homes are out in the country and don’t get enough traffic to make a sale a success. Others have lots to sell but just don’t want to go to the fuss of setting everything up and advertising their event.”

There will even be volunteers on hand to help buyers bring their purchases out to their cars.

To rent a stall for the Nov. 5 sale, call 938-4626. “if the first dates prove to be successful, we will continue to plan them for the first Saturday of the month next summer,” said Lois Layne, who headed up the garage sale committee.
