Oak Hill hike to support Sonoma Overlook Trail

While there is no direct path from the Sonoma Overlook Trail to Glen Ellen’s Oak Hill Ranch on Highway 12, there is a connection nonetheless.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, Oak Hill’s owner, Anne Teller, is leading a hike through the 700-acre property, most of which is held in perpetuity as protected wildlands. The Teller family has worked a 25-acre vegetable farm and flower garden on the property for more than 50 years, but on this day the larger grounds will be open for a guided hike, with a requested donation of $45, which will go to support the Sonoma Overlook Trail.

“The Sonoma Overlook Trail is a citizen’s trail, wholly maintained by enthusiastic volunteer overlook stewards,” said Joanna Kemper, who serves as steward chief of the three-mile Sonoma Overlook Trail. “Trail funding does not come from the city but totally relies on private donations and fundraisers like these."

An easy flat walk of about two miles on the Oak Hill Ranch is promised, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a discussion, light lunch and wine donated by Benziger Family Winery to follow. The hike is limited to 40 people; reservations are required and a donation of $45 is requested. To reserve, email lauriesot@gmail.com.

Produce from Red Oak’s gardens and orchards are available seasonally at the Red Barn Store, 15101 Sonoma Highway, Glen Ellen. To learn more about Oak Hill Farm, visit oakhillfarm.net.
