Pet Tales: Thanks, camps and an invitation

A busy month for our furry friends|

Greetings Sonoma! First let me thank everyone who sponsored and attended our fifth annual Paws for a Cause. It was a smashing success which raised over $120,000 for the shelter. These are much needed funds to help us care for the stray and abandoned animals in our community. The job that we do for the animals in our care comes with a high cost and without the generosity of supporters at our events and in individual contributions, we would be challenged to keep up with the expense. There is a belief among some that since Pets Lifeline has been here for over 30 years the organization has substantial funding. I assure you that is not the case as we receive no funding from local, state or federal contracts, but raise all our own money through dedicated supporters like yourself. And on that note, we are so grateful to every single Paws guest for making our biggest fundraiser of the year a triumph in every way. If you didn’t make it this year, there is always next year to look forward to.

And to continue our appreciation, our Saving Pets Challenge came in at $5,787 which is all going toward the kittens. We are at a 21 percent increase to our kitten population from this time last year. We are just teeming with kittens. We definitely need more room here at the ranch and you’ll be hearing about that soon. For now, we are busy with keeping up with the wee ones through our foster families and our amazing staff! If you are interested in fostering, go to petslifeline.org, click on the volunteer tab and submit your volunteer application online. Lissette Valdez, our volunteer coordinator will be in touch to let you know when the next orientation is.

We have one more week of Summer Camp left before most of the kids go back to school. Please sign up now if your wee one would like to partake or partake again if they’ve already had the pleasure. Special thanks to Fran Knight and her miniature poodle, Holly, who is an incredible 15 years old. Holly, even at 15, has been entertaining the campers every Monday all summer with her agility routine and her reading project. The two (Fran and Holly) are a gift to Pets Lifeline and we cannot thank them enough for their time and generosity.

Please put Tuesday, Aug. 23 on your calendar and bring your pooch to the ballpark for our annual Bark in the Park night at the Stompers game. We will have a pre-game costume contest at 5 p.m. judged by one or more of the Stompers. It’s a great night in the park to spend with your best friend watching America’s favorite pastime. Real dogs, hot dogs and baseball on an August Sonoma evening. It just doesn’t get any better than that! Pets Lifeline is the official sponsor of Rawhide, the Stompers faithful mascot and we are proud to support our hometown team! Go Stompers!

Speaking of our best friends, we have a houseful of doggie darlings just waiting for their forever home. Come visit all our four-legged canine friends. The shorter ones, Sean, Connery, Hank, Lenny and Joey are all small little bundles of big love. Our medium size girl, Sable is nothing but pure sweetness. Please check out our website at petslifeline.org to see who is waiting for you!

Until we meet again ... peace, love and paws.
